Will I lose weight through acupuncture?
The answer is a resounding yes and no. If you’re looking to acupuncture as a way to lose weight without needing to go to the gym or to skip dieting and healthy eating, it won’t help.
Acupuncture doesn’t take the place of diet and exercise, it works with them to give you the best chance.
There are a several components to losing weight. Doing a quickie diet or detox regimen just doesn’t work. We need to start with some basics.
- Any medical conditions you may have – you need to find out if you have medical problems such as low thyroid or adrenal function. They certainly aren’t life threatening but they can prevent you from losing weight even though you’re only eating 1000 calories a day.
- What you are eating – You may think you’re eating healthy, but if all your eating is meat and grains, that’s not healthy.
- Your exercise routine – Finding an exercise you enjoy is key. There’s a lot of different types of exercise from yoga to aerobics to walking to belly dancing! Try them all and stick with what you enjoy.
Exercise shouldn’t be work, it should be fun.
Adding in acupuncture and herbal medicine
Acupuncture’s role in losing weight comes from it’s ability to help your thyroid and adrenals function better. It can help your body deal with stress, relieve any pain you have, get better sleep and give you energy. Herbal medicine can facilitate better digestion, support your adrenals and thyroid, help with stress, sleep and pain, and on and on.
Acupuncture does help with weight loss, but only as part of the process.
