Acupuncture and Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia – a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas. It can be accompanied by restless sleep, memory issues, and mood shifts.
It is more common than most would think. It’s a long term, incurable condition but the symptoms can be treated.
Traditional medical treatments include pain relievers and muscle relaxants. Many patients also benefit from chiropractic care and an active exercise program.
Acupuncture and massage are now being recognized as excellent treatment options for fibromyalgia.
A study conducted recently at Doňa Mercedes Primary Health Centre in Spain provided some evidence of the benefits of acupuncture treatments specifically tailored for sufferers. From that study:
“At the 10-week mark, the tailored acupuncture group reported a 41% drop in pain.” Twelve months later that percentage was still at 20%
With gentle treatments designed for each patient, the constant dull pain can be relieved, giving the sufferer relief. As part of our treatment we look at your diet and lifestyle to find out how it started and put you on the path to better life.
I’ve done additional research on this condition in order to treat it effectively and to be able to talk to sufferers and relate to what they are experiencing. Together with massage and more traditional treatments you can be free of much of the everyday discomfort and symptoms.
